Over the next 10 weeks, each Monday, I will share with you, one ingredient from my “recipe for success!
Think of who you are, where you are currently, and who your source is. Without trying to impose my beliefs or spirituality on anyone, I will simply convey works now as well as what worked for me when I was in corporate America.
My first ingredient is to keep God first and center, in the forefront of everything. Each morning, I had a 6a appointment with God. I would read my bible, physically get on my knees to pray, and ask God to divinely orchestrate my day. On my commute to the television station, I would continue to pray and sing songs of praise, playing softly on the radio station. Once I drove onto the grounds of the workplace, I prayed and told God that I dedicated the building and all of its occupants to Him. As I entered the office, I whispered a prayer and asked God to “order my steps, to be my mouthpiece, and to allow me to do or say something positive to impact the lives of those I would encounter that day.
Leading a sales team consisting of a local, regional, and national staff, all kinds of personalities, was no small feat. Being held responsible for budgets, reviews for staff members, extensive travel, accountabilities to corporate, mandatory meetings, to keeping your team engaged, motivated, and making budget, definitely required that you maintained your composure and exemplified a certain level of professionalism. A winning ATTITUDE is key. There is absolutely no way that you can remain “centered without having a personal and intimate relationship with your creator.
Since my commute was 45 minutes to an hour, my ride home was a time to reflect on the day and conduct a self-analysis of what was accomplished for the day…what went well, what things we could have done differently…and a look ahead. I will talk later about displaying an “attitude of gratitude”.
